Decline in Issuance and Renewal of National Permits: Precursor for Increased Logistics Cost?

A National Permit, also known as an All India Permit, is a license that allows commercial vehicles to carry goods across India. The Transport Department of each State Government issues National Permits to goods carriers for legal transportation throughout the country. A National Permit allows a vehicle to operate in the state in which it was issued, the Union Territory, and at least four other states, including the home state. Thus, the issuance and renewal of National Permits play a pivotal role in facilitating the movement of goods across state borders.
