Reading Time: < 1 minute

Air passengers at the Hyderabad Airport were in for a delightfully rare sight as the world’s largest cargo airplane – the Airbus Beluga – landed at the airport on Sunday night and took off the next day. GMR Hyderabad International Airport made special arrangements for its landing, parking and take-off, and announced it’s touchdown with an exciting tweet.

The Beluga is known for its ability to transport oversized air cargo and recently became the ‘world’s largest cargo airplane’ after Ukraine’s Antonov AN-225 Mriya was destroyed by the Russian forces. The Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad had also been host the the Antonov AN-225 back in 2016.

According to a press release by GMR Hyderabad, the Airport was chosen for landing based on its infrastructure strength and technical parameters. The Beluga has been making frequent landings in India and was last spotted at the Kolkata Airport a few weeks ago.
