World’s largest containership delivered to MSC

The Mediterranean Shipping Company SA has welcomed the world’s largest container ship, MSC Tessa to its fleet.

Developed by Chinese shipbuilder Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding Co Ltd, based in Shanghai, the vessel has a capacity of 24,116 TEUs and measures 399.99 m lengthwise and 61.5 m breadthwise.

This is the first of the 24,116 TEU container ships ordered by MSC.

The completion of MSC Tessa will firmly consolidate the position of Chinese Ship construction companies in building ultra-large container ships.

This vessel, which broke the earlier record and became the world’s biggest container ship by capacity, was designed solely by Hudong-Zhonghua and has interesting features.

MSC Tessa is an eco-friendly, highly efficient, and low-energy consumption vessel with excellent safety features.

MSC has ordered three other ships, which are still being built at Hudong-Zhonghua’s shipyards and are expected to be delivered by August.
