The APM Terminals Mumbai is now offering a new value added service to its customers with the rail services to reposition empty containers by individual customers as well as shipping lines at the terminals, ICDs and CFS. The APM Terminals Mumbai have introduced the services to reduce the turn around time for containers. It is evident that with the growing market demand, the demand for containers is also increasing. However, transporting them via road becomes times consuming and may lead to reduced availability.

The new rail services will address this concern and will exclusively work, for individual customers as well as shipping lines, on repositioning of containers from terminals to ICDs, or even between individual depots via the terminal. With the value added service, users can leverage safety, speed and sustainability that comes with the switch towards rail over road for transporting containers. The new solution also provides greater visibility of the location of the inventory and allows better planning of the supply chain by customers.

We see growing demand from our diverse customer base for solutions going beyond conventional services a container terminal would normally offer. This includes increased focus on land-side transportation, but also products ensuring better and faster equipment availability. With this new product we want to help our customers organise their logistics better, while reducing the pressure on roads and therefore also improving safety.”

Girish Aggarwal, Chief Operating Officer at APM Terminals Mumbai

APM Terminals Mumbai expect this solution to be an attractive offer to businesses located not just in the close vicinity of the terminal, but also across Maharashtra, Gujarat and the broader region.
