MoRTH issues regulatory change, fitness certificate now mandatory for transport vehicles

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) issued a statement informing about a regulatory change on 5th April, thereby amending the Central Motor Vehicles Rule 1989. According to the amendments, all transport vehicles need to obtain a fitness certificate from the Automated Testing Station only.

For HGVs/HPMVs the regulation will be effective from 1st April 2023 and for MGVs/MPMVs and LMVs used for transportation, it will be effective starting 1st June 2024.

Automated Testing Station

During certificate renewal, transport vehicles that are up to eight years old can obtain a fitness certificate for two years. Vehicles older than eight years can get a certificate for only one year.
