After the decision of Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) to discontinue Common User Domestic Air Cargo Terminal (CUDCT) at all airports, the ministry of civil aviation has discontinued air cargo at Vijayawada and Tirupati airports.
Gen VK Singh who is the Minister of State, Ministry of Civil Aviation while replying to a question in the lok Sabha raised by YSRCP MP V Vijaya Sai Reddy in Rajya Sabha on Monday stated that outbound domestic air cargo operations in Tirupati have been discontinued on the request of Air Cargo Regulated Agent at the Tirupati airport.
The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) has requested Vijayawada and Tirupati airports to submit a proposal for self-handling by M/s InterGlobe Aviation Limited (Indigo), the minister stated.
As of now, the self-handling of shrimp movement from the existing cargo terminal and Blood samples of critical cases and important examination material are the only cargo operations permitted by the ministry. also permitted from the cargo terminal.
Meanwhile, Visakhapatnam airport is carrying out all cargo operations, the minister states in his reply.
On the other hand, the civil aviation ministry accorded in-principle approval to develop Bhogapuram airport as greenfield airport.
