BCBA concludes Logistics Conclave 2024: A Landmark Event Ushering a New Era for Logistics

The prestigious Taj Mahal Palace in Colaba, Mumbai, was abuzz with anticipation as the Brihanmumbai Custom Brokers Association (BCBA) hosted the Logistics Conclave 2024. The event, held on June 27, 2024, marked a significant milestone in the logistics sector, bringing together bureaucrats, senior government officials, and industry leaders to discuss transformative trends and opportunities under the theme “Logistics in Amritkaal – Vision 2047: Unleashing New Opportunities for Transformation under National Logistics Policy (NLP).”

The event was graced by Pramod Kr. Agarwal, Principal Chief Commisioner, Mumbai Zone I Customs as the Chief Guest as he provided an optimistic outlook for the industry in the inaugural session. Other industry stakeholders present during the inaugural session include Shyam Jaggannathan (DG Shipping), Unmesh Wagh (Chairman, JNPA), BK Tyagi (Chairman, Shipping Corporation of India) among others. The inaugural session also witnessed an MoU signing between SBI and BCBA.

The conclave witnessed four business sessions that provided a platform for industry experts to share insights, best practices, and innovative solutions, fostering a collaborative environment for all stakeholders. The topics of the business sessions were as follows:

A Vision for the Future

The conclave’s vision was clear: to shape India’s logistics landscape and unlock its growth potential towards a “Viksit Bharat” by 2047. This ambitious vision was underscored by BCBA President Dushyant Mulani, who emphasized the importance of transitioning to paperless, automated processes to improve efficiency and address bottlenecks in customs clearances. He highlighted upcoming infrastructural developments, such as the Vadhavan Port and Navi Mumbai International Airport, poised to revolutionize logistics activities in the region.

Vice-President Hiren Ruparel stressed the importance of educating the new generation about ongoing reforms and opportunities within the logistics sector. He praised the critical role customs brokers played during the COVID-19 pandemic and reiterated BCBA’s commitment to supporting government initiatives like Direct Port Delivery (DPD), which has significantly reduced costs and time for importers.

The conclave also emphasized the importance of sustainable practices through Environmental, Social, and Corporate Governance (ESG). Sanjeev Harale, Senior Vice President of BCBA, highlighted the transformative potential of projects like Adani Airports’ new runway at Navi Mumbai and the deep draft project at Vadhwan, which are set to enhance cargo volumes and logistics efficiency in Maharashtra.

BCBA’s mission is to empower customs brokers to seize emerging opportunities and transcend boundaries in charting the course for a new India.
