In a boost to multimodal automobile logistics, V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority (VOC Port) has successfully dispatched 100 VinFast electric vehicles to Ballabhgarh, Haryana, via rail using the newly introduced Newly Modified Goods (NMG) wagons.
The consignment was flagged off from the port’s Marshalling Yard in the presence of senior railway and logistics officials, including Sanjiv Garg, former Additional Member of the Railway Board, and Sriram V., former Director at IRCTC, along with representatives from VinFast and the port authority.
Highlighting the significance of the milestone, Ngan (Nancy) Nguyen Kim, Director of Supply Chain & Logistics, VinFast, said on LinkedIn: “For the first time, VinFast vehicles left Tuticorin by train. The path didn’t exist before today. We made it. Proud to take the first step in building a more efficient logistics network for VinFast in India.”
Spread across 16.25 acres, the Marshalling Yard at Tuticorin is equipped with dedicated RCC loading platforms, internal road infrastructure, and seamless rail connectivity. The facility has been developed to enable efficient handling and evacuation of cargo, particularly for automobile logistics.
Port officials said the dispatch underscores VOC Port’s growing capability in supporting large-scale vehicle movements through integrated rail infrastructure. The use of NMG wagons, designed for automobile transport, is expected to enhance efficiency and reduce transit time for such consignments.
The development highlights the port’s focus on strengthening multimodal connectivity and positioning itself as a key gateway for automotive and manufacturing cargo. Authorities added that continued infrastructure upgrades will play a critical role in supporting India’s expanding EV ecosystem and logistics demand.
