Western Carriers (India) Limited (WCIL) has commenced commercial operations at its Gati Shakti Cargo Terminal in Devaliya, Morbi, Gujarat, with Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw flagging off a bulk tiles train from the facility.
The ceremony was attended by senior WCIL officials, representatives of the Ministry of Railways and members of the local business and industrial community.

Spread across 42 acres, the Gati Shakti Cargo Terminal is a multimodal logistics facility designed to handle both road and rail freight through container and wagon rake systems. The flag-off marks the transition of the terminal from operational readiness to full commercial activation.
Located strategically in one of Gujarat’s key industrial regions, the facility is expected to support the logistics requirements of the Maliya salt belt and Morbi’s ceramics industry. Morbi produces around five million tonnes of ceramic products annually and caters to more than 80% of India’s domestic demand, according to WCIL. The terminal will also serve industries including chemicals, agriculture, fertilisers and MSMEs across the region.

The development comes shortly after WCIL inaugurated its General Cargo Terminal at the GCD Yard of the Kolkata Dock System under the Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port Authority. Developed and operated by WCIL under a 15-year agreement, the Kolkata facility handles dry bulk, break-bulk and containerised cargo. Together, the Morbi and Kolkata terminals expand WCIL’s rail-linked logistics footprint across India’s East-West freight corridor.
Commenting on the development, Rajendra Sethia, Chairman and Managing Director, Western Carriers (India) Limited, said the Morbi terminal represents a significant milestone in the company’s efforts to strengthen logistics infrastructure along the East-West corridor. He added that the facility would serve as a logistics backbone for the salt and ceramics industries, as well as the chemicals, agriculture, fertiliser and MSME sectors in the Saurashtra region.
The terminal is aligned with the Government of India’s PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan, which seeks to strengthen multimodal connectivity and improve logistics efficiency.
WCIL plans to expand the Morbi facility further, including the development of an inland container depot and warehousing infrastructure. These additions are expected to strengthen the terminal’s role as a logistics hub connecting Gujarat’s industrial clusters with markets across India.
