UltraTech Cement has deployed 45 electric heavy-duty trucks for long-haul clinker transportation, marking one of the largest electric trucking deployments in the cement sector in northern India.
The fleet, introduced in partnership with Energy In Motion (EIM) and a logistics service provider, will transport clinker from Ultra Tech’s Kotputli Cement Works in Rajasthan to its grinding units at Dadri and Sikandarabad in the Delhi-NCR region. The trucks will operate over a 250-km route spanning Rajasthan, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh.
The deployment strengthens UltraTech’s growing green logistics network, which now includes more than 750 alternative-fuel vehicles across its operations.
The electric fleet comprises 45 trucks, each with a carrying capacity of 55 tonnes. According to the company, the initiative is expected to reduce more than 8,900 tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually while replacing approximately 2.9 million litres of diesel consumption every year.
The rollout follows a transport service agreement signed between UltraTech, Energy In Motion, and a logistics partner. It is also expected to demonstrate the commercial viability of long-haul electric heavy-duty trucking in India, particularly for bulk commodity transportation.
Commenting on the development, K. C. Jhanwar, managing director, UltraTech Cement, said the company views logistics decarbonisation as an important component of its sustainability strategy.
“India’s ambition for clean, energy-secure transportation demands industry action, and UltraTech is committed to being at the forefront. By shifting long-haul clinker movement to electric vehicles, we are supporting the country’s efforts to reduce dependence on imported fossil fuels while building a more resilient and future-ready supply chain,” he said.
UltraTech has progressively expanded its use of cleaner transport solutions over the past few years. The company introduced CNG-powered trucks in 2021, LNG trucks in 2022, and electric trucks in 2024. As of FY26, its fleet includes 638 CNG trucks, 32 LNG trucks, and 89 electric trucks operating across manufacturing locations nationwide.
The latest deployment aligns with India’s broader push towards zero-emission commercial transportation and highlights the growing role of electric mobility in industrial logistics.
