UPS has named Ufku Akaltan as the President overseeing its operations in India, the UK, Ireland, and the Nordics, as per their announcement on Monday.
In this capacity, Akaltan will take the reins in driving operational excellence and growth strategies across these extended markets. UPS intends to leverage its global smart logistics network to fortify trade connections between the UK and India, as stated by the company.
India represents a key focus area for UPS, marked by substantial expansion initiatives aimed at catalyzing the growth of local businesses, both on the international and domestic fronts. This expansion has been demonstrated through the doubling of trade capacity, thanks to the establishment of a second airport gateway in Bengaluru. Additionally, a USD 20 million investment in a smart technology center in Chennai is poised to enable ongoing innovation and advancement.
MOVIN Express, a logistics joint venture between UPS and InterGlobe Enterprises, has made significant strides, extending its reach to 49 cities within its first year of operation.
“I am honoured to lead UPS in a crucial European market during such an important time for our business. We are strategically investing in our capabilities to expand our offering to our customers, from opening smart sortation facilities to innovating in the last mile to foster growth and reduce our carbon output,” Akaltan said.
Akaltan pointed out that UPS’s global network is uniquely positioned to support and enhance the trade lane between the UK and India, thanks to the dedication of its teams and strategic initiatives.
It is worth noting that Ufku Akaltan’s journey with UPS commenced as an intern in 2002, and his most recent role was as President of Growth and Emerging Markets for the Indian subcontinent, Middle East, and Africa.
