According to latest reports, the Dabok Airport (also called the Maharana Pratap Airport) in Rajasthan’s Udaipur city, may have the possibility of getting a cargo complex. The complex will be a key to facilitate import of commodities including handicraft items, mineral production, and export of fruits and vegetables in Udaipur.

Rajiv Arora, the Chairman of Rajasthan Small Industries Corporation who held a discussion with the officials of the Airport Authority in Udaipur on Friday, said that the Aviation Ministry has given in-principle permission to RajSICo to set up an Air Cargo Complex and the location has been identified. Now, the day is not far when Udaipur will have its place on the international map for import- exporter, Arora added.

Udaipur is a critical point for export activity from southern Rajasthan and the demand for goods from the city is quite consistent in the global market. Items such as lead & zinc metals, electrical & electronic equipment, fabricated goods, plastic products, HDPE woven sacks, marble & granite, soapstone & other mineral-based products, quartz & other dimensional stone products, textile, handicrafts, etc., are some of the categories which have high volume of exports.

The cargo complex is also expected to give a boost to the hotel and wedding sector in the city. It is well known that Udaipur has been a much in demand location for destination weddings, especially among high-profile people. Such weddings/events have a high demand of flowers for decoration, and these flowers, with the new cargo complex, can be easily flown in from Delhi, Kolkata and Bengaluru, and will also stay fresh.

With the expected temperature sensitive storage facility at the cargo complex, a variety of other perishables can be brought from other cities without the fear of getting rotten/damaged on the way. Spices from South, perfumes etc. and the local sweets can also be transported safely.

As of now, only the Jaipur Airport provides air cargo services in Rajasthan.
