In just one year, SolitAir has emerged as one of the fastest-scaling air cargo players in the Middle East, Asia, and Africa. Backed by a fleet of Boeing 737-800 freighters and operating nearly 30 routes, the Dubai-based carrier is positioning itself as a vital bridge for high-growth markets across the Global South.
In this exclusive conversation with Logistics Insider, Hamdi Osman (Founder and CEO) shares how SolitAir navigated supply challenges, mapped underserved markets, and built a resilient network powered by data-driven planning and operational agility.
A Year of Rapid Expansion
Speaking about SolitAir’s first twelve months, Osman calls the journey “phenomenal but demanding.” The airline started with a plan for three aircraft but had to realign its strategy when deliveries were delayed. The team’s adaptability allowed SolitAir to still close the year with seven operational aircraft and a network connecting key hubs including Mumbai, Dhaka, Nairobi, Baghdad, Istanbul, Johannesburg, and Harare.
“We used the uncertainty to rethink our model and tap into new opportunities,” Osman says, noting that request volumes now exceed what the airline had initially projected.
The Strategy Behind Underserved Routes
Osman explains that SolitAir’s network expansion is anchored in data. The airline identifies gaps in cargo movement, with a strong focus on e-commerce, pharmaceuticals, perishables, and tech products.
“Dubai gives us a natural advantage. We’re using that position to strengthen routes across the Global South,” he notes. Daily Dubai–Riyadh flights and test operations to Mumbai and Dhaka were among the early successes that shaped the network.
Tailored Solutions Across Industries
From temperature-sensitive pharmaceuticals to oversized cargo, SolitAir’s model prioritizes flexibility. Osman highlights multi-sector routes like DWC–DAC–HKG–DAC–DWC as examples of the carrier’s “think beyond standard” approach.
“Our goal is simple: to be the fastest air cargo operator, both on the ground and in the air.”
