Joycy Lyngdoh, the 35 year old from Meghalaya is determined to redefining stereotypes. She is Amazon’s first female truck driver with an Amazon trucking partner in India. With her endeavours she aims to be an inspiration for the other women who want to take up driving as a profession.
“My advice to women who want to pursue driving as a profession is that if you believe in yourself, new opportunities will open up, just go for it. You will face challenges but where there is a will, there is a way.”

What initially started as a passion for driving turned into a full fledged career for Joycy, making her a seasoned professional with over 6 years of experience. Today, she cannot imagine herself doing anything else. Her journey has motivated many more female drivers in her community. “I love being out on the road traveling to different places and meeting new people. This opportunity inspired me to pursue my passion and live a self-sufficient life,” says Joycy.
Sole bread earner
When responsibility knocked on the door, Joyce has to take care of her mother and her 3 sisters, so she decided to take up multiple jobs after completing her education. Joycy worked in several companies in Guwahati, including a steel company and as a store manager at a local shop.
She eventually learned to drive with help from her friends. The first break she got was to drive a school bus. Her passion for the road made her take up temporary driving opportunities across the city and eventually enroll with an Amazon trucking partner where she been working for the past one year. Joycy was quick to orient herself with Amazon’s operational guidelines for reliable deliveries in and around Guwahati.

Amazon has partnered with more than 500 trucking partners in India who ensure on-time, reliable and safe movement of customer packages across the country.
Third-party trucking service providers are the core of our operations and we have collaborated with them to build programs that allow them to learn safe driving techniques and gather route knowledge.

The company facilitates the trucking partners to secure health and accident insurance benefits for drivers like Joycy, by engaging directly with Amazon’s preferred insurance providers. Further, it has enabled drivers through technology-driven solutions for safe driving and to move packages efficiently by guiding them on navigation, on-time movement and reporting of delays and disruptions.
