President flags off 9 trucks carrying supplies for flood-hit Assam, Bihar & UP

President of India Ram Nath Kovind in the light of the worsening of flood situation and the ongoing pandemic on Friday flagged off nine trucks with Red Cross relief supplies for the flood-hit states of Assam, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh from the Rashtrapati Bhavan, in presence of Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan.

According to a statement released by the Rashtrapati Bhawan, the relief material that is being transported from the capital to the respected states via trains include tarpaulins, tents, clothes, blankets, kitchen utensils, mosquito nets, bed sheets, buckets and two water purification units.

COVID-19 protection kits such as surgical masks, gloves and face shields are also being sent for the health workers who are battling in the frontlines amid the pandemic. 

The respective state Red Cross branches will receive the relief items for further distribution in the interiors.

Assam and Bihar have been battling the flood situation along with the increasing coronavirus cases in the state. And, the situation in the state is expected to further deteriorate as more rain is expected in the two states for the next four days.

Speaking of the increasing COVID cases in, UP is at number six on the list of positive cases, Bihar and Assam which are at number eleven and twelve are rapidly climbing up the ladder with cases increasing every day. India at present has 13,36,861 COVID-19 cases, with 31,358 people deceased and 8,49,432 recovered.
