Porter, India’s digital goods transportation platform, has flagged off its 10,000th electric truck in Delhi, marking a significant milestone in the adoption of electric mobility for urban freight. The vehicle was formally flagged off by Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, at an event focused on India’s transition towards sustainable mobility and greener logistics infrastructure.
The milestone comes as India’s logistics ecosystem undergoes a transformation driven by initiatives such as PM Gati Shakti and the National Logistics Policy, which aim to improve the efficiency, connectivity and sustainability of goods movement. Porter’s growing electric vehicle fleet, combined with its technology-led approach to fleet utilisation, is aimed at reducing emissions and improving the efficiency of urban freight operations.
The company said it has so far eliminated 185 crore kilometres of empty runs, translating into more than ₹1,000 crore in fuel import savings for the country. Porter currently facilitates the operation of more than 50,000 electric vehicles every month and plans to quadruple this number over the next five years.
Speaking at the event, Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, said, “The flag-off of Porter’s 10,000th electric truck in Delhi is an encouraging reflection of the growing adoption of electric vehicles in India’s goods transportation sector. Over the last decade, India has made significant progress in building an ecosystem for electric mobility, and the next five to ten years will be critical to taking this journey further. With continued policy support, infrastructure development and innovation, we have an opportunity to make electric vehicles more affordable, safe and accessible, while strengthening India’s position as a global hub for manufacturing and exports.”

The event also featured a panel discussion on ‘The Future of Green Logistics: Electrification and Asset Utilisation’, moderated by Pawan Mulukutla, Executive Program Director, Integrated Transport, Clean Air and Hydrogen, WRI India. The panel included Uttam Digga, Co-Founder & CEO, Porter; Saurav Kumar, Founder & CEO, Euler Motors; and Pulkit Khurana, Co-Founder, Battery Smart.
The discussion examined the key factors that could accelerate electric freight adoption, including the expansion of charging and battery-swapping infrastructure, improved fleet productivity through digital technologies, greater vehicle utilisation and policy support for sustainable goods transportation.
The milestone highlights the increasing role of electrification and technology in India’s urban freight ecosystem. Porter currently serves more than 40 lakh MSMEs and 6 lakh driver-partners every month across 50 cities, and said it remains focused on using technology and sustainable mobility solutions to build a more efficient and resilient goods transportation network.
