Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Bhogapuram International Airport in Andhra Pradesh on August 1, according to an official press release issued on Saturday.
The project, originally conceived during the 2014 tenure of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) government, was fast-tracked by the current NDA coalition and completed within a two-year timeframe, the release noted.
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu said the airport is set to reshape the economic landscape of north Andhra by unlocking new opportunities and improving socio-economic conditions across the region.
He described the inauguration as a landmark occasion, calling for large-scale celebrations that reflect the region’s cultural richness. Naidu emphasised that the event should highlight tribal traditions and local handicrafts, making it a moment of pride for every household in north Andhra.
The state government is planning a grand inauguration ceremony to mark the completion of the project. Beyond enhancing connectivity, the airport is expected to act as a key driver for tourism, industrial expansion, and overall economic growth.
Naidu further noted that the airport will play a crucial role in the development of the Visakhapatnam Economic Region, drawing parallels with the transformative impact of the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad.
With ongoing investments in irrigation, highways, ports, airports, and tourism infrastructure, north Andhra is poised for accelerated growth, the release added. The Chief Minister also directed officials to ensure the airport reflects the cultural and artistic heritage of the state in every aspect of its design and presentation.
