Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to Gujarat, dedicated to the nation a 77 km New Bhandu-New Sanand (N) section of the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC).
This new section that will help speed up the transport of goods from ports and manufacturing hubs in the region is equipped with an electrified double line, along with 24 km long connecting lines.
Situated in Gujarat, the DFC passes through the districts of Ahmedabad, Gandhi Nagar, and Mahesana. The stretch has 19 Major bridges, 105 Minor bridges, 5 Rail Flyovers, 81 Road under Bridges (Eliminating Level Crossings), and 6 Road Over Bridges.

There are 2 DFC stations; New Ghumasan Crossing Station and New Sanand (N) Junction Station.
Costing approximately INR 3,184 Cr the DFC eliminates Road Level Crossings through 6 ROBs, and 81 RUBs to enhance the safety of road users and facilitate expeditious freight movement over the DFC alignment.
Once operational the WDFC New Bhandu – New Sanand (N) section & 24 km connecting lines will enhance connectivity with Major Ports in Gujarat like Pipavav, Porbandar, and Jamnagar with Eastern & Northern India faster movement of Exim traffic and reduced transit time.
Further, it will also boost connectivity to Freight Terminals of Viramgam, Jakhwada, Detroj, Linch, and freight loading centers in the Jamnagar area (Sikka, Reliance and Essar terminals, Mithapur) and Multi-Modal Logistics Park (MMLP) at Sanand due to faster movement.
It will also, provide expeditious connectivity with the Dairy Industry at Anand, Oil Refinery at Jamnagar, and connectivity to Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor.
The section will decongest the Gujarat Rail Network and enhance capacity building for more passenger and goods trains.
DFC has also achieved impressive average speeds, with the highest recorded at 99.82 kmph.
