Nitin Gadkari gets a second term in Ministry of Road Transport and Highways

Modi Government’s cabinet has witnessed a major reshuffle in its second term. In the new cabinet, high performing ministers like Nitin Jairam Gadkari, Piyush Goyal and Dharmendra Pradhan have retained their ministerial positions, while several other ministers have faced the portfolio reshuffling.

Gadkari, who earned the reputation of a high performing minister in Modi 1.0 Government, had brought several path-breaking reforms in the logistics sector by giving a boost to several infrastructural projects in his previous term.

Gadkari has already outlined his plan for building world-class expressways and expressed his focus on vehicles running on alternative fuel and electricity to cut down on India’s huge crude imports. In the new cabinet, Gadkari will also be handling the MSME ministry which may turn out to be some real task for him.

  • Piyush Goyal – Minister of Railways & Minister of Commerce & Industry
  • Hardeep Singh Puri – Minister of Civil Aviation

Other than these retained positions in the cabinet, Ministry of Heavy Industries will be led by Arvind Sawant which was previously led by Anant Geete. The Finance Ministry is to be led by Nirmala Sitharaman in the new term at the place of Arun Jaitley. Piyush Goyal has retained his position in the Ministry of Railways and will also be leading Ministry of Commerce & Industry.
