Maharashtra CM assures end to transporters’ woes

Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray met with the representatives of Maharashtra State Truck, Tempo, Tankers, and Bus Transport Federation at the Sahyadri Guest House on Monday 18th Oct.

The Association put forward a number of concerns including:

–           Waiver or reduction in Annual Vehicle and Professional Tax

–           Remission of tax on vehicles transporting passengers to school and religious places

–           Arrangement of parking spaces for vehicles across the State

–           Lifting entry restrictions on heavy vehicles into the city for 10-16 hours

It also requested curtailing powers of the police to inspect public service vehicles and provide relief to transporters affected by COVID-19 and diesel price hikes.

The CM said that Urban Development Department, along with State Finance, Transport and Police departments will be roped in to plan and execute the relief measures against the demands of the Association.

Adding further, Thackeray said that the Urban Development Department will be asked to check on vacant plots near cities to create parking for heavy vehicles and informed of the government plans to start trauma care centres near check posts.
