The change in leadership is set to take effect in February 2024.

The appointment of Ackerman, a seasoned professional with a decade of experience in the aviation industry, was revealed in a press statement released by Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass. Ackerman currently serves as the Executive Vice President of Global Strategy and Development at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW), one of the busiest airports in the United States.

Before stepping into his current role at DFW, Ackerman held key positions, including Chief Commercial Officer at Denver International Airport (DEN) and Managing Director of Customer Experience at United Airlines. His extensive background also includes a distinguished tenure as an officer in the U.S Marine Corps.

Acknowledging the appointment, Ackerman expressed gratitude to Mayor Karen, stating, “I look forward to using the skills and knowledge I developed during my career to lead an exceptional organization and serve the city of Los Angeles.”

Contributions at DFW

As Executive Vice President of Global Strategy and Development at DFW, Ackerman played a pivotal role in shaping the airport’s global presence. Over his 9+ years, he focused on developing strategies, enhancing infrastructure, and expanding cargo capacity. Under his leadership, DFW pioneered the first online parking system with dynamic pricing at a U.S. airport.

DFW, currently the second busiest airport in the U.S. in terms of passenger movement, is experiencing expansion. The airport, a hub for American Airlines, is set to invest up to $3.5 billion in terminal improvements, including the construction of Terminal F and upgrades to Terminal C. Additionally, Ackerman has been instrumental in addressing cargo capacity challenges and promoting growth through new facilities.

Looking Ahead with Ackerman at the Helm of LAWA

With Ackerman’s wealth of experience and successful track record at DFW, there is anticipation that he will bring valuable insights and strategic initiatives to further enhance the operations and global standing of Los Angeles World Airports. The city of Los Angeles eagerly awaits the positive impact of Ackerman’s leadership in the dynamic and evolving landscape of aviation. The transition is set to shape the future trajectory of LAWA and its vital role in the aviation industry.
