India’s logistics sector will require an additional 47 lakh workers by 2030, signalling an urgent need for large-scale skilling reforms and the creation of a digital-ready workforce, said Ravikanth Yamarthy, CEO of the Logistics Sector Skill Council (LSSC), at LogiMAT India 2026.
The projection comes amid strong hiring momentum in 2025, when the industry recorded an estimated 10.8 per cent net employment growth in the second half of the year. Despite this expansion, talent gaps continue to widen across freight, warehousing, transportation and supply chain functions. Yamarthy stressed that industry-aligned certification programmes and practical, hands-on training would be critical to addressing the growing demand–supply imbalance. He added that LSSC’s partnership with LogiMAT India aims to advance workforce upskilling while positioning India as a global talent hub for logistics.
The third edition of LogiMAT India opened at the Bombay Exhibition Centre in Mumbai, bringing together more than 350 global brands from 10 countries. The event is designed to deepen collaboration between policymakers, technology providers and industry stakeholders to accelerate workforce transformation and strengthen supply chain competitiveness.
Bernhard Müller, Vice President at Landesmesse Stuttgart GmbH & Co. KG, noted that LogiMAT India has matured into a strategic platform supporting the country’s ambition to emerge as a global supply chain hub. He pointed to robust international participation as evidence of rising global interest in India’s logistics ecosystem.
Emphasising inclusion, Shyam Jagannathan, I.A.S., Director General of Shipping and Additional Secretary at the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, called for expanding employment opportunities for women in logistics. He observed that sustained investment in people and inclusivity would play a decisive role in accelerating India’s growth trajectory.
