India has prepared a $1 trillion blueprint to boost maritime infrastructure and investments, Union Ports, Shipping and Waterways Minister Sarbananda Sonowal announced on Wednesday.
Speaking at the curtain raiser of India Maritime Week 2025, Sonowal said the government is working to transform the nation’s ports, shipping, and logistics ecosystem. “These opportunities open up a $1 trillion maritime investment roadmap, with strong potential for joint ventures in port development, cargo terminals, and allied services,” he said.
The focus areas include multimodal terminals, shipbuilding, ship recycling, ship repair, maritime services, green hydrogen hubs, and sustainable shipping solutions.
The event, attended by embassy representatives from Malta, Sri Lanka, South Korea, Japan, and Belarus, discussed India’s maritime priorities such as strengthening shipbuilding capacity and driving port-led development, according to the shipping ministry.
Delegates also highlighted opportunities in India’s growing blue economy and underscored the need to fast-track the transition to green shipping through hydrogen-powered and low-emission vessels.
