The Indian government has announced an extension of its flagship export incentive program, the Remission of Duties and Taxes on Export Products (RoDTEP), until March 2026, according to a commerce ministry notification. Originally set to expire on September 30, the scheme reimburses exporters for taxes, duties, and levies levied at central, state, and local levels that are not covered under any other refund programs, helping reduce the cost of manufacturing and distributing goods for international markets.
The extension comes amid rising global trade pressures, including the United States doubling tariffs on Indian exports, which now reach up to 50 percent on products such as textiles, leather, and food items. Exporters had called for continued financial support to maintain competitiveness, prompting the government to continue the scheme.

RoDTEP currently covers more than 10,000 products across sectors including agriculture, textiles, and engineering goods. The program offers rebates ranging from one to four percent of the product’s value, allowing exporters to recover indirect taxes paid during production and distribution. With this extension, India aims to strengthen its export ecosystem, safeguard the interests of its manufacturing base, and ensure that Indian products remain competitive in international markets despite increasing trade barriers.
