A coalition of policymakers, industry leaders and sustainability experts has unveiled the Hyderabad Declaration, a comprehensive policy framework calling for the establishment of a National Green Logistics and Sustainable Supply Chain Mission to accelerate the decarbonisation of India’s logistics ecosystem.
The declaration was launched during the International Conference on Green Technology, Policy and Finance (ICGTPF) in Hyderabad and is expected to be submitted to NITI Aayog and other central government ministries as a roadmap for advancing green logistics and low-carbon freight infrastructure across the country.
Described by Sandip Chattopadhyay, Founder of the ICGTPF and Chandradeep Solar Research Institute, as a “cabinet-ready” policy document, the framework seeks to integrate green hydrogen, renewable energy, digital logistics, sustainable ports and multimodal infrastructure under a unified national mission.
The launch was attended by Kadhiravan Palani, Additional Collector, Hyderabad, along with K K Maheshwari, President of the Federation of Telangana Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FTCCI), Vice President Srinivas Garimella, and representatives from government, industry and academia. A roundtable discussion following the launch explored strategies to accelerate the adoption of green logistics across India.
Positioned as India’s first integrated policy framework for sustainable logistics, the Hyderabad Declaration brings together green hydrogen, AI-enabled digital logistics, port-led industrial development and clean freight corridors into a single national strategy.
According to the declaration, improving logistics efficiency could reduce India’s logistics costs from the current 14% of GDP to global benchmarks of 8-9%, potentially generating annual economic gains of USD 320-390 billion through fuel savings, operational efficiencies and enhanced export competitiveness. The framework also aims to reduce dependence on fossil fuels, strengthen energy security and position India as a global hub for green hydrogen and green ammonia trade.
Among its key recommendations are the creation of a National Green Logistics & Hydrogen Corridors Mission, development of the Kandla–Delhi–Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) Hydrogen Corridor as a national pilot, conversion of major ports into zero-emission green ports, establishment of a Green Logistics and Ports Fund through public-private partnerships, and deployment of AI-enabled digital logistics platforms with integrated carbon-tracking capabilities.
The declaration is accompanied by a draft Cabinet note, a Prime Minister’s Office-level decision brief and state-specific implementation roadmaps for key industrial states, enabling both the centre and state governments to adopt and operationalise its recommendations.
Experts at the conference noted that the initiative comes at a time when global supply chains are rapidly transitioning towards low-carbon operations and emerging trade corridors, including the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC), will increasingly depend on sustainable logistics infrastructure and clean energy ecosystems.
