The depot will open international trade route for the industrial belt of Sanand – Mehsana – Bechraji
Gateway Rail Freight Ltd has launched Inland Container Depot (ICD) operations at Viramgam near Ahmedabad, Gujarat.
The first consignment of export containers of Honda Motorcycle and Scooters India Ltd (HMSI) was flagged off from the ICD by Deepak Jha, Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), Ahmedabad division in presence of Sushant Kumar, Additional Commissioner, Customs and Amit Kumar, Joint Commissioner, Customs.
On the inaugural occasion, Deepak Jha, DRM Ahmedabad Western Railway said, “This initiative will benefit international trade in Ahmedabad and would go a long way in offering rail/road option for the new industrial estates of Gujarat.”
Sachin Bhanushali, Director and CEO, Gateway Rail said, “We are committed to offering a reliable rail transportation service for imports and exports from our Viramgam ICD which would make a fundamental difference in the Intermodal service for Gujarat trade.”
Gateway Rail is a leading private ICD and Intermodal Rail operator with ICDs at Gurugram & Faridabad in Haryana and Ludhiana in Punjab. It operates 30 BLC class trains to provide a daily service between these ICDs and the western ports of Nhava Sheva, Mundra and Pipavav.
It also offers optional road transport service from these ICDs to provide an integrated intermodal solution for the international trade in NCR and Punjab and will now offer similar service from the newly inaugurated ICD at Viramgam to the international trade of newly developing industrial belt of Sanand – Mehsana- Bechraji of Ahmedabad.
