As cross-border e-commerce evolves beyond simple parcel movement into a complete consumer experience, logistics companies are increasingly positioning themselves at the centre of global digital commerce. Garudavega’s acquisition of YourDesiCart reflects this shift, signalling a move from being a logistics service provider to becoming an integrated cross-border commerce platform focused on connecting Indian sellers with global consumers.
Satish Lakkaraju, CEO, Garudavega, discusses how the acquisition is helping the company strengthen seller enablement, improve delivery predictability through consolidation-led models, and build a more seamless cross-border shopping experience. The conversation also explores the company’s expansion strategy across the US, Europe, and the Middle East, along with its long-term ambition to emerge as a trusted global commerce brand rooted in Indian-origin products and cultural authenticity.
The acquisition of YourDesiCart brings Garudavega closer to the end consumer. How does this reshape your long-term identity?
Logistics has traditionally been an invisible service the customer sees the package, not the journey. With YourDesiCart, we are changing that equation.
We are now part of the entire consumer experience from the moment someone in New Jersey or Dubai decides they want a product from India, to the moment it reaches their doorstep. That means thinking beyond transit times and documentation, and focusing on user experience, trust, and accessibility.
Our identity is evolving into that of an integrated cross-border commerce enabler. Our logistics backbone remains our strongest advantage, but we are now building a full-stack platform on top of it. Features like quality checks, personalised shopping, tailoring, and first-of-its-kind consolidation lockers in India strengthen that experience.
Long term, this positions us as a global commerce brand rooted in trust, reliability, and cultural authenticity, not just speed or price.
Where do you see the biggest opportunity for value creation: customer experience, cost optimization, or seller enablement?
Customer experience and cost optimization are table stakes you either deliver them, or you lose relevance.
The real opportunity lies in seller enablement and buyers experience.
There are thousands of Indian manufacturers, artisans, and brands with world-class products but no access to global markets. They lack the infrastructure, compliance knowledge, and logistics capabilities to scale internationally.
By combining YourDesiCart with Garudavega’s cross-border network, we become their export engine. We handle the complexity logistics, customs, duties, and last-mile delivery allowing sellers to focus on their core strength: building great products.
Our flywheel is simple: enable sellers, delight customers, and scale drives cost efficiency.
How does integrating YourDesiCart improve delivery predictability and unit economics?
Consolidation is one of the most powerful but underutilized levers in cross-border logistics.
Instead of multiple shipments from different sellers, orders are aggregated at our fulfilment hubs in India and shipped as a single consolidated package. This reduces shipping costs, simplifies customs clearance, and significantly improves delivery predictability.
More importantly, we control the critical parts of the value chain origin handling, compliance, and carrier relationships. That control allows us to make delivery commitments we can consistently honour. This is a model where scale improves both margins and predictability.
Does this acquisition help solve fragmentation in cross-border e-commerce? What are your next priorities?
Fragmentation is the original sin of cross-border e-commerce.
Most platforms optimize either the shopping experience or the shipping layer rarely both, and almost never compliance. The result is a broken customer experience.
This acquisition allows us to build a truly integrated pipeline from product discovery to doorstep delivery with compliance embedded seamlessly in between. For the customer, compliance is invisible; for us, it is airtight.
Our next focus is clear:
- Strengthening origin infrastructure: faster seller onboarding, better fulfilment capabilities, and rigorous quality control
- Expanding destination capabilities: deeper last-mile partnerships across the US, Middle East, Australia and UK
International freight is already our strength. Now we are strengthening the edges of the value chain.
As you expand into the US, Europe, and the Middle East, what challenges do you anticipate?
Each market requires a distinct approach.
The US is our largest opportunity. The Indian diaspora there is not just large, but deeply connected to Indian products. They are not only looking for speed, they are looking for authenticity and reliability. That is where we have a natural advantage.
The Middle East is a strong strategic fit, with high diaspora concentration and growing demand. Our focus here is localization, language, payments, and last-mile accessibility. Europe is more compliance-intensive, so we are taking a phased approach, starting with the UK and expanding gradually into other key markets.
How do you plan to compete with established global cross-border platforms?
We are not trying to outscale global generalist platforms. We are building something more focused and more defensible.
Our goal is to be the most trusted platform for Indian-origin cross-border commerce. That means deep seller relationships, strong logistics control, regulatory expertise, and a cultural understanding that global platforms cannot replicate.
We don’t need to be the biggest player in cross-border commerce. We need to be the best at this.
