Flipkart to generate over 100,000 direct and indirect supply chain job opportunities ahead of festive season

Ahead of the festive season and the 10th edition of its annual ‘The Big Billion Days’ (TBBD) sale, the e-commerce giant Flipkart has announced its commitment to generate over 100,000 direct and indirect job opportunities within its extensive supply chain network. These positions will cover fulfillment centers, sortation centers, and delivery hubs located across the nation, all designed to meet the heightened customer demand during the festive period. Notably, a significant portion of these roles will be seasonal in nature.

Furthermore, Flipkart is gearing up to handle more than 40% of its shipments during the festive extravaganza through its Kirana delivery program. These employment opportunities will encompass local Kirana delivery partners, women, and individuals with disabilities, as the company continues to expand its supply chain infrastructure by establishing last-mile distribution hubs and large-scale fulfillment centers. Flipkart has added a substantial 1.9 million square feet of operational space in various states including Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Bihar, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Telangana.

Recruits for these roles will undergo comprehensive training in supply chain processes specific to their functions, equipping them to proficiently handle handheld devices, point-of-sale machines, scanners, a variety of mobile applications, and more.

Hemant Badri, Senior Vice President and Head of Supply Chain, Customer Experience, and ReCommerce at Flipkart Group, emphasized the exceptional scale and complexity required to successfully execute TBBD. He highlighted the company’s commitment to not only scaling up capacity, storage, placement, sorting, and packaging but also investing in skilling initiatives to enhance the overall customer experience as they expand their reach across the nation.

Earlier this year in July, Flipkart’s supply chain division, Ekart, introduced business-to-business (B2B) delivery services spanning the entire nation. This service utilizes a fleet of over 7,000 GPS-enabled trucks, offering both air and surface modes of delivery, catering to various MSMEs, including manufacturers, retailers, and brands across different industries.

During the same month, Flipkart also revamped its seller-centric policies, benefiting both existing and new MSMEs. These initiatives encompassed pricing recommendations, promotional support, rewards platforms, fulfillment enhancements, speed initiatives, and guidance to improve the cost efficiency and sustainability of MSMEs engaged in selling on the marketplace.

Flipkart, established in 2007, boasts a registered customer base exceeding 450 million and hosts over 1.1 million sellers on its platform. This marketplace offers an extensive range of more than 150 million products across a diverse spectrum of over 80 categories.
