Flipkart strengthens West Bengal footprint with expanded investments in logistics, technology and jobs

Flipkart has reaffirmed its long-term commitment to West Bengal, announcing plans to deepen investments in logistics infrastructure, technology and the seller ecosystem as the state continues to emerge as a key market for the ecommerce major.

The Walmart-owned company said West Bengal recorded a 20% year-on-year growth on its platform, reinforcing the state’s strategic importance in Flipkart’s expansion plans.

At the centre of its operations is the company’s largest fulfilment centre in India, located in Haringhata. Spread across 5 million cubic feet, the automated facility serves as a major logistics hub supporting order fulfilment and supply chain operations across the country.

Beyond Haringhata, Flipkart has established a network of more than 300 fulfilment centres, mother hubs and last-mile delivery facilities across the state. Collectively, these operations support over 1.2 lakh direct and indirect jobs, strengthening West Bengal’s logistics and employment ecosystem.

The company’s quick commerce platform, Flipkart Minutes, has further expanded its presence by setting up 90 micro fulfilment centres across the state, creating nearly 10,000 additional employment opportunities.

“West Bengal is emerging as a key hub for digital commerce. Our investments in infrastructure, technology and supply chains are creating jobs, empowering MSMEs, supporting farmers and enabling entrepreneurs to access markets across India,” said Kalyan Krishnamurthy, Group CEO, Flipkart.

Currently, the platform hosts more than 66,000 sellers from west Bengal, offering products around categories including apparel, handicrafts and home furnishings. Through its Flipkart Samarth initiative, nearly 29,000 products created by the state’s weavers and artisans are listed on the marketplace. In Shantipur, over 250 Tant and Jamdani weavers and sellers collectively generate annual sales exceeding ₹100 crore through Flipkart.

To strengthen the logistics talent pipeline, Flipkart is also collaborating with the Paschim Banga Society for Skill Development to train young professionals in warehousing and supply chain operations, helping build a skilled workforce to support the state’s growing logistics sector.
