Flipkart is accelerating its quick commerce ambitions with plans to significantly expand its dark store network. According to a report from TechCrunch, the Walmart-owned e-commerce major has already surpassed 800 dark stores and is targeting nearly 1,600 by the end of 2026, effectively doubling its capacity to support faster deliveries.
This aggressive expansion comes amid the rapid growth of India’s quick commerce sector, where demand has surged sharply for select players. By increasing the number of dark stores, small, strategically located fulfilment centres designed for rapid order processing, Flipkart aims to improve delivery timelines and better meet rising consumer expectations for near-instant service.
The move also reflects intensifying competition, as major e-commerce and quick commerce players continue to invest heavily in infrastructure and last-mile capabilities. The push for faster delivery is raising competitive pressures in a market where achieving profitability remains a persistent challenge.
