Federal Express Corporation (“FedEx”) has announced plans to develop a new integrated air cargo hub at GMR Cargo City at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport, strengthening connectivity across North and East India and linking businesses in these regions with destinations across its global network.
The proposed facility represents a long-term investment of approximately US$150 million by FedEx. Spread across around 230,000 square feet, the fully automated integrated air cargo hub will bring international gateway and pickup-and-delivery operations together under one roof. The integrated setup is expected to improve operational efficiency and enable faster, more seamless shipment movement.
Once operational, the hub is designed to increase processing capacity from 600 to 5,000 packages per hour, with the flexibility to scale further in line with demand.
The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by Shri Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu, Hon’ble Minister of Civil Aviation, Government of India.
The facility is planned to feature an advanced auto-sorter, latest-generation X-ray machines, enhanced security systems and intelligent package-handling technologies. These capabilities are expected to support efficient and reliable shipment movement, strengthen network resilience and improve the customer experience.

GMR Cargo City is being developed as an integrated cargo and logistics ecosystem at Delhi Airport, bringing together global logistics players, cargo operators and allied services within an airport-based platform. The 50-acre development is designed to strengthen Delhi’s position as a leading air cargo gateway while supporting India’s growing trade, e-commerce and express logistics requirements.
The development has a total potential of approximately 1.5 to 2 million square feet. Phase 1 will comprise approximately 1 million square feet across nearly 30 acres. The detailed design for Phase 1 has been finalised by leading consultants, enabling works have commenced, and construction is expected to begin shortly.
The proposed FedEx hub marks a significant milestone in GMR Cargo City’s development, reinforcing its positioning as a destination for world-class logistics infrastructure and global connectivity.
