Dubai International Airport had to suspend 2 flights of Dubai-based Emirates Airline due to suspected drone activity in surrounding airspace on Sunday according to a media report.
Flight EK 433 from Brisbane and Singapore to Dubai was diverted to Dubai World Central and another flight EK 511 from Delhi to Dubai was diverted to Sharjah International Airport (SHJ) between 12:36 pm and 12:51 pm (UAE local time).
According to reports, the drone activity took place despite repeated warnings. The concerned authorities have earlier warned that such individual actions are serious violations of regulations that seek to prevent unauthorised aerial activity in the vicinity of airports.
Later, Emirates in a statement expressed its sincere regret for any inconvenience caused. And, stressed that it places the highest priority on the safety of its passengers and crew, and it will not compromise on this.
The airlines also confirmed that it assisted affected passengers with alternative booking options and hotel accommodations.
