Disruption in Trade Activities between Bangladesh and India via Sonamasjid Land Port Amidst National Elections

In light of the upcoming 12th national election in Bangladesh, export-import operations between Bangladesh and India through the Sonamasjid land port have been temporarily halted starting this morning.

Although export-import activities have been suspended, it’s important to note that immigration processes at the land port continue to operate without interruption. The decision to suspend trade operations has been communicated through an official notice issued on Friday by Mohammad Mahbub Hasan, the joint commissioner of customs at the Sonamasjid land port.

According to the notice, the temporary suspension aims to facilitate the smooth conduct of the national election, ensuring the safety and security of the electoral process. As a result, exporters and importers are advised to plan their trade activities accordingly, considering the brief hiatus.

The Sonamasjid land port is expected to resume full-scale trade activities on Monday, following the conclusion of the national election. Logistics stakeholders and businesses engaged in cross-border trade between Bangladesh and India are encouraged to stay informed about the evolving situation and make necessary adjustments to their operational schedules during this temporary disruption.
