Logistics services provider Delhivery has launched a nationwide network of more than 1,000 rest facilities for delivery personnel, making the centres accessible to all riders and gig workers irrespective of the company, platform or sector they work for.
Named ‘Vishram’, the initiative marks Delhivery’s 15th year of operations and is being positioned as an industry-wide welfare effort rather than a company-exclusive employee benefit. The facilities are open to delivery workers from e-commerce, quick commerce, food delivery and traditional courier services, including those employed by competing platforms.
According to the company, the network comprises more than 1,000 operational centres spread across nearly 600 cities and towns, including major metropolitan markets as well as emerging logistics hubs.
Delhivery said the initiative aims to address the lack of basic roadside infrastructure available to delivery personnel, who often work long hours in challenging weather conditions. The company noted that riders across the logistics and delivery ecosystem frequently have limited access to clean washrooms, drinking water, sheltered rest areas and charging facilities during their shifts.
Each Vishram centre offers seating areas for short breaks, clean washrooms, drinking water, cooling facilities such as fans or air coolers, mobile charging points and first-aid kits. The centres are designed to provide relief during extreme weather conditions, including heavy rain and high temperatures, while also serving as safe spaces during late-night delivery hours.
“By opening our network of over 1,000 Vishram Centres to all delivery partners, regardless of platform, we aim to establish a higher standard for gig worker welfare,” said Prashant Gazipur, Chief Operating Officer, Operations, Delhivery. He added that industry-wide collaboration would be essential to create a safer and more sustainable ecosystem for delivery workers.
To facilitate access, Delhivery has introduced a digital check-in and check-out system that allows riders to register by scanning a QR code and entering their mobile number. The company said the paperless process is intended to ensure quick access while helping manage occupancy and hygiene standards.
The launch comes amid growing attention on the welfare of gig and delivery workers in India, particularly as the country’s e-commerce, quick-commerce and food delivery sectors continue to expand. By opening the facilities to riders beyond its own workforce, Delhivery’s Vishram initiative represents one of the largest shared infrastructure programmes aimed at supporting delivery personnel across the logistics industry.
