BRICS Transport Ministers Adopt Joint Declaration to Advance Sustainable Infrastructure and Logistics Cooperation

BRICS transport ministers have adopted a joint declaration outlining a shared roadmap for strengthening cooperation across sustainable infrastructure, green mobility, aviation, logistics and railway research at the 3rd BRICS Transport Ministers’ Meeting held in Nagpur, Maharashtra.

Hosted under India’s BRICS Chairship for 2026, the meeting concluded on Saturday with the unanimous adoption of the Ministerial Declaration, signalling a collective commitment to building more resilient, sustainable and interconnected transport systems across BRICS member countries.

The ministerial meeting, held on 11 July, followed the 3rd BRICS Transport Working Group (TWG) Senior Officials’ Meeting from 9–10 July, where officials finalised the agenda and negotiated the draft declaration ahead of its formal adoption.

The declaration establishes a common framework for collaboration in several strategic areas, including circularity in transport infrastructure, Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), transport decarbonisation, urban mobility hubs, logistics and supply chain integration, as well as the creation of a BRICS Railway Research Network to foster knowledge sharing and innovation.

According to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), the declaration provides a collaborative roadmap to address emerging transport challenges while supporting the development of sustainable, resilient and future-ready transport networks across BRICS economies.

The ministry said the agreement reflects the spirit of mutual respect, equality and consensus that underpins BRICS cooperation, with member countries reaching agreement on all priority areas through an extensive consultative process.

Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari thanked all participating delegations for their constructive engagement and support in achieving a successful outcome. He acknowledged the collaborative efforts of member nations in finalising the declaration and strengthening transport cooperation within the BRICS grouping.

India also expressed appreciation for the contributions of all member countries in ensuring the success of the meeting and reaffirmed its commitment to facilitating a smooth transition of the agreed initiatives to the next BRICS Chairship.

The four-day programme brought together transport ministers, senior government officials and technical experts from BRICS countries. Alongside the ministerial and senior officials’ meetings, the event featured bilateral discussions and cultural programmes showcasing the diversity of the BRICS nations.

MoRTH said the meeting served as an important platform for advancing institutional cooperation, strengthening people-to-people engagement and promoting dialogue on sustainable transport solutions that support economic growth, regional connectivity and more integrated logistics networks across BRICS member countries.
