Arunachal Pradesh cabinet greenlights state logistics policy

The Chief Minister Pema Khandu-led Arunachal Pradesh cabinet has given the nod to formulate the state’s logistics policy, aligning it with the PM Gati Shakti Framework.

Geared towards the vision of ‘Developed Arunachal Pradesh 2047,’ the policy aims to establish an integrated, multi-modal logistics ecosystem, CMO statement said.  The introduction of the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan in 2021 emphasized the importance of multimodal connectivity infrastructure for economic zones, followed by the launch of the National Logistics Policy in 2022 to enhance efficiency and reduce costs on a national scale. Arunachal Pradesh’s placement in the ‘Aspirer’ category in the Logistics Ease Across Different States (LEADS) 2022 annual report prompted the need for policy intervention to elevate its status. The cabinet meeting on Thursday also acknowledged recent advancements in connectivity infrastructure and the associated growth prospects.

The comprehensive policy aims to consolidate all connectivity projects under a unified umbrella.

The policy consolidates connectivity projects, including the Arunachal Frontier Highway, a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Balinong, new industrial areas, upgrades to infrastructure, and a proposed logistics hub, fostering comprehensive growth. The cabinet also reviewed the progress of 12 central flagship schemes, aiming for saturation by March 2024.
