APSEZ to launch dedicated empty container yard at Mundra Port

Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (APSEZ) on Friday announced that it will commence operations of a dedicated Empty Container Yard (ECY) at Mundra Port and SEZ, aimed at streamlining container handling and improving services for shipping lines and customers.

According to the company, the facility will offer end-to-end services across the empty container lifecycle, including storage, maintenance, inspection and movement to exporters and Container Freight Stations (CFSs).

APSEZ said the initiative will strengthen Mundra’s position as a key gateway for India’s international trade while supporting the vision of Viksit Bharat.

The on-site operations are expected to enhance safety, security and regulatory compliance. Faster container turnaround and improved utilisation of infrastructure will also help optimise logistics costs.

APSEZ, India’s largest integrated transport operator, has a 45.5% share of the country’s container market as of FY26. Mundra Port alone handles nearly 35% of India’s container trade, making it the country’s largest container-handling port.

The volume of empty containers handled at Mundra is estimated at around 1.6 million TEUs annually, highlighting the port’s role in supporting India’s import-export supply chains.

Ashwani Gupta, Whole-time Director and CEO, APSEZ, said the dedicated ECY, to be operated by APSEZ and/or partners including CFSs and shipping lines, will improve efficiency across the container ecosystem by enabling faster turnaround, reducing unnecessary container movements and optimising logistics costs.

“Strengthening trade-enabling infrastructure remains central to APSEZ’s commitment towards supporting India’s growth and the vision of Viksit Bharat,” he said.
