Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (APSEZ), India’s largest ports and logistics company, has appointed CEO Karan Adani as the Managing Director. This pivotal decision comes as Gautam Adani, Chairman of the Adani Group, transitions to become the Executive Chairman of APSEZ, reinforcing the company’s commitment to sustained growth and global leadership in the port sector.

Under Karan Adani’s leadership as CEO, APSEZ experienced remarkable growth, significantly contributing to the nation’s infrastructure development. Joining the Adani Group in 2009 at the Mundra Port, he assumed the CEO position in 2016, leading to rapid expansion with the addition of four ports and terminals in India, one in Sri Lanka, and another in Israel.

Following strategic expansions and partnerships, APSEZ has become India’s fastest-growing private sector port developer and operator, managing 14 ports along India’s coastline and two international ports. Additionally, through its subsidiary, Adani Logistics Ltd, APSEZ has become India’s largest and most diversified private rail operator, holding a substantial share in logistics and harbor and dredging businesses.

In a move to further enhance APSEZ’s global leadership, the board has approved the appointment of Ashwani Gupta, former global Chief Operating Officer at Nissan Motors, as the new Chief Executive Officer. Karan Adani expressed his enthusiasm for Mr Gupta’s appointment, citing it as a strategic move to fortify their position in the global port sector.

Mr Gupta brings nearly three decades of experience across the automotive, retail, and manufacturing sectors, with a notable track record of fostering key partnerships worldwide. He is recognized for leading customer solutions through technological advancements and aligns with APSEZ’s vision for expansion, innovation, and commitment to sustainability.

Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd has evolved into an Integrated Transport Utility, providing end-to-end solutions from its port gate to the customer gate. With 14 strategically located ports and terminals on the west and east coasts of India, APSEZ accounts for 26% of the country’s total port volumes. The company is also venturing into a transshipment port in Colombo, Sri Lanka, and operates the Haifa Port in Israel.

This elevation of leadership positions and strategic appointments solidifies APSEZ’s position as a major player in the global port and logistics industry, emphasizing its commitment to excellence, sustainability, and international collaboration.
