India’s supply chain ecosystem is evolving rapidly, driven by a strong push for multimodal infrastructure, digital integration, export-oriented logistics, and sustainability. States across the country are stepping up to support this transformation while positioning themselves as key contributors. Among them is Telangana, which is preparing to launch its Logistics Policy 2.0 and scale up major projects aimed at strengthening its role as a logistics gateway for the nation. In this conversation with Auszad Shaik, Vice President of Logistics & Supply Chain, Industries, Commerce & Export Promotion, Government of Telangana, we explore the state’s priorities, progress, and long-term vision for a modern, integrated logistics ecosystem.
Telangana aims to position itself as a logistics hub connecting India’s eastern and western ports. How does the upcoming Logistics Policy 2.0 strengthen this vision, and what are its key focus areas?
Telangana’s upcoming Logistics Policy 2.0 builds on our initial policy’s success by creating a more integrated, technology-driven, and sustainable logistics ecosystem. Our vision is to position Telangana as the logistics gateway of inland India and a cargo hub connecting both eastern and western ports while enabling seamless multimodal movement of goods.
The new policy focuses on five core pillars:
- Infrastructure Enablement – accelerating development of logistics parks, multimodal hubs, and dedicated freight corridors.
- Digital Integration – establishing a Unified Logistics Digital Platform (ULDP) for realtime tracking, clearances, and coordination among stakeholders.
- Policy & Regulatory Facilitation – creating single-window systems and logistics-friendly industrial zoning.
- Sustainability & Green Logistics – promoting EV-based fleets, solar-powered warehouses, and circular packaging practices.
- Skill Development & Innovation – setting up centers of excellence for logistics training and innovation with academic institutions and industry bodies.
Together, these initiatives ensure that Telangana not only connects India’s heartland to major ports but also sets new benchmarks in logistics efficiency and sustainability.
The state recently received national recognition for its progress in logistics efficiency. What on-ground measures are being implemented to sustain and expand this momentum?
We’ve taken a ground-up approach to improving logistics efficiency—focusing equally on infrastructure, digital systems, and policy simplification.
On the ground, we’re:
- Developing Integrated Logistics Parks at strategic locations such as Medak, Medchal, Nandigama, and Batasingaram.
- Rolling out first- and last-mile connectivity projects linking industrial clusters with national highways, ports, and airports.
- Strengthening our rail and road freight network in partnership with Indian Railways and the National Highways Authority.
These steps have resulted in faster cargo handling, reduced logistics costs, and improved service levels, outcomes we aim to scale further in the coming years.
The mega logistics park in Medak has drawn attention as a flagship project. Could you share its current progress, unique features, and how the state is encouraging private participation?
The Medak Mega Logistics Park is a cornerstone project under our logistics infrastructure roadmap. It is being developed over 300+ acres, strategically located along the Hyderabad– Nagpur Industrial Corridor, and designed as a multimodal hub integrating road, rail, and potential air connectivity.
Unique features include:
- A dedicated rail siding for direct freight movement.
- Plug-and-play warehousing zones for 3PLs, e-commerce, cold chain, and FMCG sectors.
- Green infrastructure, including solar rooftops, rainwater harvesting, and waste management systems.
- A customs clearance and bonded warehousing facility for export-oriented units.
