8th Commercial Vehicle Forum Unites Industry Leaders to Shape India’s Transport Future

The highly anticipated 8th edition of the Commercial Vehicle Forum (CVF) took place on June 4, 2024, at the J.W. Marriott in Pune. This event brought together industry leaders, policymakers, and stakeholders to explore the future of the Indian commercial vehicle, off-highway, and road transport sectors. Mr. Satyakam Arya, MD and CEO of Daimler India Commercial Vehicles, served as the chairman of the event, significantly enhancing discussions on industry growth and development. Dr. T. Surya Kiran, Executive Director of ASRTU, was the Chief Guest, contributing his extensive expertise.

The forum featured over 60 speakers, 500 attendees, and 30 exhibitors, facilitating knowledge sharing, insightful conversations, and networking opportunities. Participants gained valuable insights into the current state and future trends of the commercial vehicle and off-highway industry, focusing on sustainable and efficient growth.

CVF 2024 included two parallel conference tracks post-lunch, with session topics chosen through a crowd-sourced agenda, reflecting diverse industry viewpoints. Prominent speakers and experts delivered presentations, engaged in panel discussions, and participated in interactive sessions on topics such as the future of the CV and road transport industries, off-highway equipment market trends, digital transformation, EV and alternative fuel trends, regulatory updates, and women shaping the future of logistics.

A highlight of this edition was the introduction of the CV Tech Synergy Initiative, powered by the Daimler Truck Innovation Center India (DTICI). This initiative invited the CV community to propose flexible, scalable, and affordable ECU software architectures for software-defined vehicles. The top three ideas competed in a “15 Minutes to Win” challenge, with winners receiving INR 4 lakhs in cash prizes.

The forum’s success was attributed to the active participation and contributions of all attendees and speakers. Notable speakers included Prasanna Patwardhan, Chairperson and Managing Director of Prasanna Purple Mobility Solutions, and Malind Kapur, Executive Vice President of Piaggio Vehicles Pvt. Ltd., among others.

Mr. Satyakam Arya, in his speech, emphasized India’s pivotal role in the global commercial vehicle industry, projecting it to become the 3rd largest economy by 2027 and invest $1.6 trillion in infrastructure by 2030. Discussions also centered on the National Logistics Policy, aiming to reduce logistics costs from 13–14% of GDP to 8% by 2030. He highlighted significant industry transformations driven by technology and sustainability, including the rise of electric and hydrogen fuel cell trucks, autonomous and connected vehicle technologies, and telematics and IoT integration for optimized fleet management.

Key discussions at the forum included the Future of Commercial Vehicle and Road Transport, Off-Highway Equipment Market Trends, and the intersection of regulatory compliance, sustainability, and digital transformation. Panels also explored achieving 50% power generation from renewables by 2030 and celebrated women’s contributions to logistics.

The next edition of the Commercial Vehicle Forum will be held in May 2025 in Pune, with expectations of over 700 delegates, 70+ speakers, and 50+ partners.
