8 tier-II airports to be equipped with world-class facilities

Suresh Prabhu inaugurates infra projects in 7 states    

In an inauguration spree, Suresh Prabhu, Union Minister of Civil Aviation inaugurated aviation infrastructure projects in 7 states of the country through video conferencing in New Delhi on Friday. The airports which will be revamped and upgraded are Trivandrum and Calicut airport in Kerala, Mangaluru airport in Karnataka, Madurai airport in Tamil Nadu, Rupsi airport in Assam, Jaipur airport in Rajasthan, Amritsar airport in Punjab and Imphal airport in Manipur.     

“Under this project, Rs. 620 crore will be spent on 8 AAI airports located in different parts of the country to make them world class and future ready.”

The Minister further stated that aviation connectivity will not only help in the development of tourism but will also boost India’s trade with its neighboring countries. Airports such as Rupsi – Assam and Imphal – Manipur will open up the entire South East Asia sector and airports located in countries like Nepal and Bangladesh will boost trade and tourism with India.  

Justice P. Sathasivam (Retd.), Governor of Kerala, inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for projects of Trivandrum and Calicut airport from Trivandrum, Governor of Karnataka, Vajubhai Vala laid the foundation stone for projects at Mangaluru airport and Sarbananda Sonowal, Chief Minister of Assam, laid the foundation stone of Rupsi airport in Assam.
